We in The Brass Tacks Ensemble are devoted to…
…CONNECTING to our audience through the essential elements of theater to spark the imagination;
…PRESENTING established and original works with a focus on clarity, universality, and entertainment;
…PROVIDING actors, directors, designers, and writers an opportunity to develop as artists.

 BRASS TACKS PRINCIPLES

  • Storytelling, first and foremost.  Without a clear, well-told story, there is no show.
  • Sound dramaturgy.  The core elements of the play–plot, theme, characterization, etc.–must be presented clearly and not obscured by directorial concept.
  • Theater is metaphor.  The “bare bones” approach frees the audience’s imagination.
  • Universal themes.  Our shows are for all audiences not a select few.
  • Ensemble is key.  Our shows make use of everyone’s talents, energy, and time; people work with each other not against each other.
  • Growing as artists.  We learn something new with each production.
  • Sound financial principles.  We will spend the money if it’s necessary–but make sure it’s necessary.
