We are currently working to bring educational opportunities to community members who would like to participate.  This will take the form of one-day workshops. multi-week classes, and whatever the ensemble members come up with!

Here are some ideas:

  • Brass Tacks 101: a workshop on some of the ways past directors have approached directing with text and story in mind.

  • A “smorgasboard” – want to learn how to hang lights? Write a short play? Participate in improvisation games?  This series of workshops will appeal to those with “Jack-of-all-trades” ambitions.  Theatre is a collaborative art form.

  • Stage Combat

  • Shakespeare

  • Something that you come up with: email your idea for a workshop (whether you would like to lead or just have a suggestion):

Previously-held classes – let us know if you’re interested in another session!

What sets a Brass Tacks Ensemble production apart?  How does a Brass Tacks program get that “Brass Tacks” look?  What is that “‘Brass Tacks’ look”?  Join us as we help you make your productions, programs, proposals, and workshops true Brass Tacks projects.  After this session, you will:

  • Have a better understanding of the Brass Tacks Ensemble’s Mission Statement & Principles.

  • Be able to craft a vision for your own Brass Tacks Ensemble project.

  • Learn some tips for tackling obstacles and getting more out of less.

  • Give your project the Brass Tacks look and feel.

Our first session was Saturday, July 25, 20153-6 pm at Mechanical Simulations (755 Phoenix Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48108).  While the class is designed for all sorts of projects, this first session will be geared slightly toward directors who are proposing for the 2016 season.  Therefore, slots will be reserved first for those proposing directors, and remaining slots will be opened up on a first-come, first-served basis.
